Power Electronics And Renewable Energies Laboratory (PEARL)

     It has been four decades since the discipline of power electronics was systematically introduced. The applications of power electronics have widely impacted residential, industrial, transportation and commercial sectors that require electric power supply, delivery, and conversion. The proportion of all electric power flows through power electronics is expected to increase from 30% in 2010 to 80% in 2030. In particular, power electronics has been playing an enabling role in emerging fields, such as smart grid, transportation electrification, renewable energy harvesting, data center, mobile electronics, and wearable medical devices.

     The research in PEARL in ShanghaiTech is revolved around modeling, simulating, prototyping, and validating power electronics systems in the applications of electrified transportation, renewable energies harvesting, smart home, power management of wearable devices and many more. We develop power management solutions that take advantage of advanced topologies, power devices, magnetic materials, and control strategies in those emerging fields.

OPENINGs! PEARL is seeking 2~3 highly motivated graduate student candidates for the academic year 2024. The candidate should have the intention to pursue a Ph.D at ShanghaiTech. Candidates with background in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation, Control, Power Systems, and other related disciplines will be considered.
